oh yeah, I almost forgot, What information should I be asking my friend for about my domain name to switch over the service? Is it a special number or code that I will be needing? Will my sight go off line during the changing of host?

I currently own my domain name for my business but have a friend hosting it... Because I'm now ready to take on owning my on hosting service and want keep everything under my business name, what type of features will I need to be looking for when I decide on my own hosting company? There are so many options and levels of services they offer- Because I'm a first time buyer and a small business on a budget, what should I be looking for? How much memory and data space will I be needing and what should I be looking for to ensure that I can expand when the time comes?

<blockquote>
Michael,
The bottom line is that if you own your own business, you need to own it. Free sites like blogger are great, but ultimately you want to be in control of your business. You do not want to be at the mercy of another companies term of conditions or be subject to there whims. If you are able I would purchase your own domain, get your own hosting, and host your blog yourself. This way you are in total control of your business and have a far greater flexibility to do what you want and whats right for your business.

As far as places to go to get the previous mentioned items, I recommend the following (not necessary just my preference)

Domain Names: Trident Domain ( http://tridentdomain.com )
Hosting: Hostgator ( <a href="http://viaburst.com/recommends/gator_v.html" rel="nofollow">My personal pick</a> )
Platform to use: Wordpress (self hosted )

My final thoughts... Take control of your business in the online world. More traffic, leads, exposure and money is what it's all about and the best way to do this is by "owning" your own website and not "renting" someone else.

Hope this helps. Thanks for the question and I look forward to many more. I'm here to help everyone.
